Rising Star Artist Afua Richardson:

“Let’s start a movement to help artists not only learn to draw but know contract law, know their rights, and find jobs and representation that will ensure they are not taken advantage of”

Since art is something so near and dear to me, I want to build a platform that teaches art and art programs and skills that don’t put you in debt. I want to help artists not only learn to draw but know contract law, know their rights and find jobs and representation that will ensure they are not taken advantage of while they develop their skills and client base.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Afua Richardson. Afua Richardson is an African/ Indigenous American comic book illustrator best known for her work on the Eisner award-winning series, ‘Marvel’s Black Panther World of Wakanda’. Other works include Xmen, All-Star Batman, and illustrations prominently featured in the upcoming HBO series ‘ Lovecraft Country ‘ produced by Jordan Peele, Misha Green and JJ Abrams. Afua is one of the few African American female artists to work for Marvel and DC comics as an illustrator, making her one of only 4 black women to ever receive an Eisner. [ All four women for the same project] In addition to being an illustrator, Afua is a musician, singer-songwriter, performer, writer, voice actor, and community leader assisting young artists navigating the art world.
